E-Rate Step 1: Technology Plan
To be eligible to receive E-Rate funding, you must have an approved technology plan explaining how technology will be used to achieve improved student learning. The plan must include a sufficient level of detail, including the following five elements.
- Goals: Establish clear goals for using telecommunications and IT to improve education;
- Professional Development: Include a professional development strategy to ensure that staff know how to use these new technologies to improve education;
- Needs Assessment: Include an assessment of the telecommunication services, hardware, software, and other services that will be needed to improve education;
- Budget Resources: Provide a sufficient budget to acquire and support the non-discounted elements of the plan; and
- Evaluation: Include an evaluation process that enables the school to monitor progress toward the specified goals and make mid-course corrections in response to new developments and opportunities as they arise.
